We are pleased to present works by the greatest figures in the early photography of the American West.  The mammoth views of Carleton Watkins are "the finest landscapes produced by an American in the 19th century, and some of the most sophisticated and arresting images ever produced with a camera" (Nickell). W. H. Jackson is "one of the most studied and written about American 19th-century photographers" (Harrell), and Charles Leander Weed was the first photographer to work in Yosemite.
