Inside / outside
Studio portrait or landscape photographers both try to capture the essence of their subjects. Portraitists attempt to draw out the inner psychology of their sitter and make it physically manifest. Landscapists create visual connections between natural elements, relying on their perception of light, composition and their emotions to appropriate the outside world and make it personal. They are "looking through", communicating between the inner and outer worlds.
